Chicken Burgers: 15 Varieties!

theHusband and I love to make homemade burgers – so much better than store-bought! I came across this post on a weight watchers board today, and was thrilled to find all of these chicken burger suggestions! Thought I’d share them with blogland 🙂


  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 1/2 cup grated carrot
  • 2 stalks celery finely chopped
  • sea salt
  • freshly ground pepper
  • 1 dash lemon juice
  • 1 egg lightly beaten (optional)

Note: If you find your chicken mixture too soft to form into patties, you may want to add a grain binder (oatmeal, cooked brown rice, softened bulgur, or bread/cracker crumbs)

  1. Cantonese: Add 1 tsp sesame oil, 1 tsp soy sauce, 1/4 cup chopped peanuts and 1/4 tsp garlic powder 
  2.  Greek:  1 tblsp fresh oregano, 1/4 tsp garlic powder, 7 tblsp feta cheese crumbled, 1/4 cup black chopped olives.
  3. Thai 1: Add crushed fresh garlic, 1 large handful chopped cilantro, 3 tbsp chili sauce, 1 tsp ground coriander
  4. Thai 2: Add 1/4 cup plain yogurt, 2 tblsp minced green onion, 1 tsp minced fresh ginger, 1 tsp soy sauce, 1 teaspoon curry. Top with diced fresh mango tossed with lime juice and snipped mint.
  5. Herbed Apple: Add 2 peeled and coarsely grated apples, 1 tblsp chopped fresh sage, 1 tbslp fresh thyme leaves 
  6. Southwest: Add 1/2 cup shredded zucchini, 1/2 tsp ground cumin. Top with salsa or pico and chopped fresh cilantro. 
  7. Mexican: Add 1 cup corn kernels, 2 tsp mild chile powder, 2 tblsp lime juice, 1/2 tsp ground cumin 
  8. Indian: Add 2 tsp garam masala, 1 tsp fresh grated ginger, 1/4 tsp ground red pepper. Top with raita (yogurt/mint/chopped cucumber) 
  9. Cajun: Add 1 small finely chopped onion, 1/4 cup chopped bell pepper, 1 clove minced garlic, 1 tsp Tabasco, 1 tbsp Worcestershire sauce 
  10. Buffalo: Add 1/4 cup buffalo wing or other hot sauce to the mix. Top with Fat Free cheese dressing or a mix of sour cream/real blue cheese 
  11. Curry: Add 1/2 cup diced peeled tart apple, 1 tsp curry powder 
  12. Japanese: Add 3 tblsp teriyaki sauce, 3tbslp finely diced onion, 1 tsp fresh chopped parsley. Top with grilled pineapple. 
  13. French: Add 1/2 cup diced red onion, 1 minced garlic clove, 2 tbsp fresh tarragon snipped, 2 tsp dijon mustard
  14. Pizza: Add 3 tablespoons of tomato paste and some italian seasoning blend. Top with mozzarella
  15. Italian: Add chopped red bell pepper, chopped parsley, garlic, green onions, Italian seasoning, and a little Parmesan cheese
